2019 Mercedes GTC. Back in the days, we have heard a lot of rumor that Mercedes-AMG will come with a convertible version. Looking at the soft top of the prototype, we can confirm that this is the car they were talking about. Due to popular demand, the manufacturer will give canvas top for 2019 Mercedes-AMG GTRoadster which will give better thermal insulation. When it launched the AMG GT a couple of years ago, the company said it was meant to bring a taste of race-car-like performance to the street. Now comes the new 2019 Mercedes GTC Roadster, injecting all the fresh air you could ever want. And how. It’s good-looking and fast, and the sound is simply intoxicating. If you want to get noticed, here ya go.
AMG’s GTC Roadster, introduced at last fall’s Paris Motor Show, is essentially the AMG GTR with a folding roof and the hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 27 less hp. The 2019 Mercedes GTC shares the GTR’s active rear-steering and electronically locking rear diff; the more subdued AMG GTRoadster is closer to the base-spec GT: no rear steer, no electronically locking diff and “only” 503 hp from its 4.0-liter V8. The power gets sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle mounted out back to a limited-slip differential. The GTC’s suspension is a double-wishbone coil-over with AMG’s Ride Control active damping that electric rear-wheel steering is designed to increase maneuverability: Below 62 mph, the rear wheels can turn up to 1.5 degrees opposite the fronts to help guide the car around corners; from 62 on up, the wheels turn in the same direction as the fronts.
The 2019 Mercedes GTC shares a few more R attributes: It’s 2.25 inches wider than the base Roadster, roughly the same as the GTR. The aggressive-looking GT3-inspired ’50s Panamericana grille has the AIRPANEL active air management system vertical louvers behind the front bumper open and close to improve aerodynamic balance and aero performance. It all brings up the logical question, is there a GTR Roadster in the works? Nobody’s talking. The convertible’s aluminum spaceframe and body have been reinforced in the door sills and with a crossmember behind the seats for added stiffness. To save weight, the trunk lid is made from a SMC (Sheet Molding Compound)/carbon-fiber mix. AMG says combining the two is a world first. Meanwhile, the three-layer fabric soft top can raise or lower in 11 seconds at vehicle speeds of up to 31 mph.
2019 Mercedes GTC Roadster will come with 4.0 L V-8 turbocharged engine that can generate 456 HP @ 6000 RPM and 443 Lb-Ft of Torque @ 1600 RPM. Hence, the car can run to 60 mph from zero in just 4 seconds and marks 189 mph as its top speed. This car is also equipped with the 7-speed dual clutch transaxle to make everything more interesting. Even though it is clear that the engine is below the GTS version, it is still powerful enough to compete with Mercedes-AMG GTS.
So far, all the news we have been heard about Mercedes-AMG GTRoadster are good. And, we just can’t stand to wait to buy this car. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait long because this car will come in the first half of 2018 as the 2019 model. Meanwhile, the 2019 Mercedes GTC Roadster series will be launched in the second half of 2018. The price remains a secret up to this time. But with all the specifications in mind, let’s expect it to cost approximately $142.000 to $150.000.
