2019 Suzuki Swift Sport. In the past, the Suzuki Swift has been somewhat undermined in the small car market, never being a threat to the Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa. This is despite its pleasing looks, bags of equipment and cheap running costs. Suzuki is looking to change that with the revamped car which sports a bold new redesign. The small car’s new look is aimed to appeal at younger buyers and follows the trend of compact cars such Nissan Micra, and Citroen C3 opting for a striking new look. Its new front grille and headlights are implanted into a more pronounced and muscular nose, compared to the smooth curves of the original Swift. You won’t have long to wait for the replacement Suzuki Swift Sport. This new, very yellow high-performance version of the regular Swift hatchback will be on sale in 2019.

2019 Suzuki Swift Sport styling is sportier than previous versions and features a much larger grille than the regular model to send more cooling air to the engine. The design of the mesh inside the grille is also new and looks much more menacing than the standard car’s slatted grille. The entire front bumper is completely new with deeper air intakes and a noticeable chin spoiler. Either side of the lower intake are fog light housings with a more pronounced rim helping the car look wider and lower. New side skirts also feature and, while this photo only shows the car’s front, the rear bumper and spoiler will probably be upgraded and have a sportier look.

Unlike non-Sport models, the exhaust tips will be larger and integrated into the rear bumper. Firmer sports suspension will be fitted to the 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport, meaning the car will sit lower than regular models, reducing body roll and helping it feel more agile. It’ll target the Ford Fiesta ST when it goes on sale, so we expect it to handle well and feel planted on the road. The 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport rides on large, five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels and low-profile tyres. The headlights, door mirrors and ‘floating’ roof have all been carried over from the rest of the range, and the rear door handles are hidden in the C pillar for a coupe-like appearance. Key to this performance boost will be a platform that’s based on the one fitted to the new Baleno.

Extensive use of high-strength steel means it weighs as little as 880 kg and its heft could be reduced further in the smaller Swift Sport. Such a light weight would also appeal to people looking for old-school hot-hatch thrills an audience where the Swift has traditionally won friends. Along with its naturally aspirated engine, the Sport is also set to lose the option to have a youthful three-door body, something that would save Suzuki money on tooling costs. Hidden rear door handles should keep the sporty looks regardless, and most people will appreciate the added practicality offered by an extra pair of rear doors. You can also expect the exterior to be jazzed up courtesy of a body kit, boot spoiler, chubby twin exhaust pipes and large alloy wheels as shown in our exclusive render, above.

Based on the all-new 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport we revealed last year, it’ll be the first Sport to get a turbocharged engine as Suzuki hunts for more performance along with, crucially, lower CO2 emissions and cheaper running costs. With emissions testing getting ever tougher, the company’s decision to fit the new 2019 Suzuki Swift Sportwith a turbocharged engine was all-but-inevitable even if purists will lament the loss of the old 1.6-litre engine’s lightning reactions and frenetic power delivery. Those’ll be quickly forgotten when fans realise the new 1.4-litre Boosterjet will increase everyday performance significantly. Power rises from 136 to 140hp but torque jumps from an anaemic 118Ib ft at 4,400rpm to a much healthier 162Ib ft from just 1,500rpm. That should be enough to drop the Swift Sport’s 0-62mph time to less than eight seconds (from 8.7 currently) and massively improve in-gear acceleration transforming the Sport into a far more usable car as a result.

Suzuki’s trump card with the new 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport is its aggressive pricing structure. The Japanese automaker has set a starting price for the new 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport at £8,999. It may not be comparable on some levels with power and practicality over its rivals but the lower price may just sway some buyers and help the car stake its claim in the small car market. The car will be available from June 2018 in the UK.
